Create a Vintage Keyplate Wall Hook with Just a Few Beautiful Bits

Vintage-style wall hook made from a painted wood panel with decorative escutcheon applique and black and white ceramic knob, mounted on a textured grey wall.

Looking for a quick DIY with a ton of charm? This elegant wall hook brings vintage flair to any space using a timber offcut, one of our ornate appliqués, and a statement knob from our collection. It’s stylish, simple, and the perfect little weekend win.

What You’ll Need

Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint

  • A timber offcut or wood board
  • Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White
  • Annie Sloan Clear Wax
  • Annie Sloan Dark Wax (or mix of Dark + Black)
  • Escutcheon 009 Appliqué
  • Decorative knob from the Mon Petit Palais knob collection
  • Wood glue
  • Drill

How I Did It

  1. Prep the board: I gave a plain timber offcut some character with a light wash of Old White chalk paint to highlight the wood grain.
  2. Paint the appliqué: The escutcheon was painted in Old White, sealed with Clear Wax, and finished with a blend of Dark and Black Wax to bring out its intricate details.
  3. Attach it: I glued the appliqué to the centre of the board once everything was dry.
  4. Add the hook: A hole was drilled for the knob, which I screwed in to create a practical and eye-catching feature
