Create a Vintage Keyplate Wall Hook with Just a Few Beautiful Bits

Looking for a quick DIY with a ton of charm? This elegant wall hook brings vintage flair to any space using a timber offcut, one of our ornate appliqués, and a statement knob from our collection. It’s stylish, simple, and the perfect little weekend win.
What You’ll Need

- A timber offcut or wood board
- Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White
- Annie Sloan Clear Wax
- Annie Sloan Dark Wax (or mix of Dark + Black)
- Escutcheon 009 Appliqué
- Decorative knob from the Mon Petit Palais knob collection
- Wood glue
- Drill

How I Did It
- Prep the board: I gave a plain timber offcut some character with a light wash of Old White chalk paint to highlight the wood grain.
- Paint the appliqué: The escutcheon was painted in Old White, sealed with Clear Wax, and finished with a blend of Dark and Black Wax to bring out its intricate details.
- Attach it: I glued the appliqué to the centre of the board once everything was dry.
- Add the hook: A hole was drilled for the knob, which I screwed in to create a practical and eye-catching feature
Try This Look in Other Way
This project is so easy to personalise:
- Swap Old White for Duck Egg Blue for a softer, vintage coastal feel
- Use Graphite for a bold, moody finish
- Try Antoinette for a romantic French-country vibe
Style it as:
- A unique coat hook
- A bathroom towel holder
- A key hanger
- Or line a few up as a custom wall rack
